Building of intercity railway gathers speed
East China's Anhui and Jiangsu provinces are speeding up the construction of a 54.23-kilometer metro line to better link the two provinces amid the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region. The Nanjing-Maanshan Intercity Railway, expected to slash travel time between Jiangsu's Nanjing and Anhui's Maanshan to 30 minutes upon completion in 2025, saw the installation of its first box beam, which measures 34.9 meters long and weighs 610 metric tons, on Thursday. Also known as the S2 Line of Nanjing Metro with 16 stations, partially built by China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd, it began construction in December 2020.
China's luxury market to prosper further
China's luxury goods market is expected to grow to 816 billion yuan ($120 billion) by 2025, or 25 percent of the global total, said a report from PwC China on Thursday. Offshore duty-free shopping in the southern province of Hainan has boosted the country's burgeoning luxury goods market, with its offshore duty-free shopping accounting for about 13 percent of Chinese consumer spending on luxury goods in 2021, raking in 49.5 billion yuan, the report said.
