Trial ratings for foreign banks start
China on Tuesday released trial measures for comprehensive regulatory ratings of foreign banks' Chinese branches. Ratings will be based on core factors like risk management, operational control, compliance, asset quality and the level of support bank branches in China receive from their global head offices, which involves the assessment of operating risks, financial conditions and management capabilities of their head offices, said the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission. Regulators will take the annual ratings as an important basis for allocating regulatory resources, granting market access and implementing classified oversight of the branches in China. The measures will guide foreign banks to improve risk management, the CBIRC said.
