Volvo unveiled its all-electric seven-seater EX90 SUV on Wednesday, which the Swedish premium carmaker hailed as the start of a new era for the company.

It has a range up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle, and it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The initial twin-motor all-wheel drive version is powered by a 111-kilowatt-hour battery and two permanent magnet electric motors. In its performance version, it has a maximum output of 380 kW and a top torque of 910 Newton meters.

Thanks to a state-of-the-art sensor set, the EX90 is the safest car it has produced and is the first Volvo to be hardware-ready for unsupervised driving in the future, said the company.

A core system — powered by Nvidia Drive AI platforms Xavier and Orin; Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm; and in-house software — runs most of the core functions, from safety and infotainment to battery management.

It features a 14.5-inch center screen and is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay. The driver's smartphone serves as the car key and automatically unlocks the car.

Volvo said the EX90 will be built in the United States in 2023 and later in China.

Starting with this model, Volvo will reveal one new electric car each year. By 2030, the carmaker aims to sell only electric cars.
