Washington should prove 'real will', FM says

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday called on the United States to prove its "real will" in negotiations aimed at reviving the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, according to the Foreign Ministry's website. The US should prove that it would not "violate" its obligations by imposing sanctions, Amir-Abdollahian said at the first meeting of national coordinators of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, which opened in Teheran on Saturday. He pointed to Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear pact, saying that it showed Washington's "disregard for its international obligations and its clear violation of the resolution approved by the United Nations Security Council".

Far-right party elects new leader

France's far-right Rassemblement National party elected Jordan Bardella as president on Saturday, overwhelmingly backing the 27-year-old member of the European Parliament to succeed Marine Le Pen in the post. Bardella, who had already been interim president for a year, won nearly 85 percent of party members' votes against 15 percent for his challenger Louis Aliot. Bardella has said immigration and national identity would remain key tenets of RN's program. Bardella will be the first person to lead the party who is not a member of the Le Pen family. The former National Front party was founded in 1972 by Marine's father, Jean-Marie Le Pen.
