Organizers of WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 announced on Wednesday that the event is canceled.

The announcement, jointly released by WorldSkills International, WorldSkills members and the WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 Executive Bureau, said "the current lockdowns in Shanghai and ongoing pandemic prevention and control restrictions in China make hosting the event not possible in 2022".

The competition was initially scheduled for last year in Shanghai but was later postponed to October this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to the announcement posted on the WorldSkills website, members and global partners are considering alternative opportunities for those preparing for this year's competition.

The organization lamented the cancelation and said it is now considering bringing the competition to Shanghai in 2026.
