High altitude and low temperatures in Tibetan region mean year's farming has only just begun

At an elevation of about 4,200 meters, Zhaxizom in Dingri county is the Chinese administrative township closest to Mount Qomolangma, also widely known as Mount Everest, which lies on the border between the Tibet autonomous region and Nepal. Due to its high altitude and low temperatures, spring farming only began earlier this month.

Men plow the fields using horses, while the women follow behind planting potato sprouts. The crop will be ready to harvest in autumn.
