Swiatek withdraws from Madrid Open
WARSAW - World No 1 Iga Swiatek announced on Wednesday that she had to withdraw from the WTA Madrid Open tournament as "her body needs rest".
The 20-year-old Pole remains unbeatable in 23 matches. She has won four consecutive tournaments as she turned out to be the best in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart.
"After intense last weeks and winning four titles in a row, it's time to take care of my arm that has fatigued since the Miami Open and I haven't had a chance to handle it properly. I need a break from playing so intensively in order to treat my arm well," she explained in a statement.
"I'm going to take some time to prepare for Rome and Paris. See you soon there," Swiatek said.
The Mutua Madrid Open is scheduled from April 26 to May 8.
