Hong Kong Arts Festival is all set to deliver a high-voltage 50th anniversary program where the marriage of art and tech will be much in evidence. Rebecca Lo plugs in to find out more.
Da explains that visuals will be spurred by the music itself, with "each note transformed into highly accurate digital signals and wirelessly transmitted to computer programs, generating visuals and triggering stage lights. The concert transforms into an organic visual music experience, creating a synthetic space rich in musical expression."
He describes Nirvana as an experimental collaboration drawing on the skills of performers, composers, designers and engineers to expand and disrupt classical music. "We are extremely blessed to have Xiangjun as our pianist - she possesses artistic vision and technical virtuosity," Da says. "Her courage in accepting challenges and risks perfectly matches our shared philosophy of breaking comfort zones."
"To reach 50 years is a significant moment," affirms Ho. "We are very privileged to build upon strong foundations. Laila and other art tech performances show that it is important to be relevant today while being conscious of what the future may bring."
