Chongqing posts robust expansion
Southwest China's Chongqing municipality reported stable and progressive economic growth in 2021, official data showed. The city's GDP reached nearly 2.78 trillion yuan ($438 billion) in 2021, surging 8.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the government work report delivered on Monday at the fifth session of the 5th People's Congress of the Chongqing Municipality. Chongqing's fixed-asset investment rose 6.1 percent year-on-year. Total retail sales of consumer goods grew 18.5 percent and the municipality's foreign trade volume jumped 22.8 percent.
Power usage jumps 10.3% last year
China saw its electricity consumption exceed 8.3 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2021, up 10.3 percent from 2020, said the National Energy Administration on Monday. Total power consumption last year was up 14.7 percent compared with that in 2019, it said. Electricity consumption in the primary sector reached 102.3 billion kWh, up 16.4 percent year-on-year, while that for the secondary sector reached 5.6 trillion kWh, up 9.1 percent year-on-year. Power consumption in the tertiary sector rose 17.8 percent year-on-year to more than 1.4 trillion kWh, said the administration. Electricity consumption of urban and rural residents rose 7.3 percent year-on-year and exceeded 1.17 trillion kWh, it said.
