Recommendation list
A national-level list has been issued, recommending the first batch of cultural blocks for tourism and leisure purposes, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Monday. Altogether 55 streets featuring history, culture and commerce were included, including Qianmen Street in Beijing and Sinan Mansions in Shanghai. The list is available on the ministry website for public opinions and suggestions.
Online event
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Cyberspace Administration of China jointly launched a livestreaming cultural event on Monday in the run-up to the traditional Chinese holidays, such as Spring Festival and Lantern Festival. The online event will gather intangible cultural heritage preservation institutions and inheritors, record videos of traditional holiday customs while conforming to anti-pandemic protocols and share them on the event's platform as well as other platforms. Netizens can then upload their own posts, interact and communicate, according to the organizers. Participating localities have also rolled out their own action plans for the event in accordance with local anti-pandemic protocols.
New appointment
Karan Jain has been appointed general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Shenzhen. Jain started his career in China with the hotel in Shenzhen, Guangdong province in South China, in 2013. Later, he moved to Guangzhou, Guangdong; Nanjing, Jiangsu province; and Beijing, picking up a great deal of professional expertise and gaining recognition in the market, before he returned to Shenzhen. He said Shenzhen is a dynamic city full of opportunities and that he will work together with the hotel staff to further improve the hotel's market recognition, performance and guest satisfaction and create unique, customized and unforgettable experiences for customers.
Scheduled opening
Wushang Group, a leader in the trade and commerce sector in Central China's Hubei province, signed a deal with InterContinental Hotels Group on Wednesday to launch a new hotel in Nanchang, Jiangxi province in East China. The hotel is scheduled to open in the second half of next year. Wushang announced it would spend 3.3 billion yuan ($520.22 million) to acquire a commercial complex under construction in September 2021. The hotel in which Wushang is cooperating with IHG is a crucial part of the acquisition, which includes a shopping mall and commercial buildings.
