Supersized tunneling machine developed
China's domestically developed supersized shield tunneling machine rolled off the production line on Wednesday in Changsha, Hunan province, said China Railway Construction Corp Ltd. The machine has a diameter of 15.01 meters and weighs 4,400 tons, the company said. The machine will be used in the construction of tunnel projects in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. With 87 percent of its parts made domestically, the machine was the result of the independent development of core components and key systems, said CRCC.
Ultrahigh altitude wind farm begins operation
The first batch of wind turbine generators at an ultrahigh altitude wind farm in the Tibet autonomous region has begun generating electricity. Located more than 4,850 meters above sea level in Comai county, the wind farm is financed by China Three Gorges Corp. The facility has a total installed capacity of 22 megawatts. The wind farm is an ultrahigh altitude wind power research demonstration project, which is expected to drive local economic and social development, improve the local energy structure, as well as promote the local tourism industry
