SAMR launches big data center
The State Administration for Market Regulation, China's top market regulator, launched on Thursday a competition policy and a big data center. The center was set up to strengthen policy and theoretical research in areas like antimonopoly, competition and platform-based economy. The move also aims at boosting the administration's ability to track trading online and related big data analysis.
Gaming market grows 6.4% to $47 billion
China's gaming market raked in 296.5 billion yuan ($46.6 billion) in sales revenue this year, up 6.4 percent year-on-year, according to 2021 China Gaming Industry Report, which was released by the Game Publishing Committee of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association. The report's publication coincided with the annual meeting of China's gaming industry in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in Guangdong province. China now has 666 million gaming users. The market is said to be gradually nearing saturation. The esports and video games market in China generated 140.2 billion yuan in sales revenue this year, up nearly 3 percent year-on-year.
Ningbo Zhoushan port joins top league
The annual container throughput of China's busiest port, the Port of Ningbo Zhoushan in the eastern province of Zhejiang, reached 30 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) on Thursday morning, said the port. The port in the city of Ningbo became the third port with an annual throughput of more than 30 million TEUs worldwide, after the ports of Shanghai and Singapore. In 2020, the port saw its cargo throughput exceed 1.17 billion tons, ranking first in the world for the 12th consecutive year, while its container throughput surpassed 28.7 million TEUs, ranking third globally.
Hubei Jan-Nov trade up 26% to $76b
Central China's Hubei province reported robust foreign trade growth in the first 11 months of this year, Wuhan Customs authorities said. Hubei's total import and export value reached 486.2 billion yuan ($76.4 billion) in the January-November period, up 26 percent year-on-year. The provincial capital Wuhan saw its foreign trade reach 305.2 billion yuan during the period, up 26.5 percent year-on-year.
