SUDAN
5 killed during mass demonstrations
At least five protesters were killed during mass demonstrations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other cities, said the health ministry in the dissolved Sudanese government. Protesters gathered in the cities of Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman for huge demonstrations on Saturday in protest against recent measures adopted by the Sudanese army commander, including dissolving the government and appointing a new sovereign council. Officials said 39 policemen were seriously injured.

Prison riot leaves 68 dead and 25 wounded
Prison inmates from rival gangs in Ecuador fought each other with guns, explosives and blades in a bloodbath that left at least 68 dead and another 25 wounded, officials said. Authorities said late on Saturday they had regained control of the prison in Guayaquil for a second time after the president's spokesman said fighting had again broken out earlier in the day between inmates from rival gangs tied to drug trafficking rings.
