Man-and-dog race kicks off in Shanghai
The Go! Buddy obstacle race took place in Shanghai on Saturday after the first version of a man-and-dog competition in China had been well-received in Beijing in June.
Part of the Spartan Race in China but unlike other competitions in the series, the Go! Buddy obstacle race involves teams of one man and one dog racing together instead of being owners and pets.
With 10 obstacles like puddles, walls and a log bridge along a 3-kilometer route, participants tested their abilities in teamwork and will when meeting challenges.
Latiao, a husky dog and runner -up in the elite group of the Shanghai race, is an adopted dog. His owner said they got into the daily habit of running for 3 kilometers and exercising with gym equipment in order to prepare for the competition.
The dog racers were divided into three groups according to height and weight: no more than 40 centimeters and no more than 10 kilograms, 40-60 cm and 10-30 kg, over 60 cm and 31-40 kg. Each dog was identified by nose print for signing up and received a personal race bandana and leash. All those who finished the race got free pet insurance.
