Band 6 propels Xiaomi to wearables peak
Chinese tech company Xiaomi Corp overtook Apple Inc to become the world's top wearable band maker by shipments in the second quarter of this year, according to market research firm Canalys. From April to June, Xiaomi shipped 8 million wearables, exceeding Apple's 7.9 million units. Xiaomi's performance was bolstered by the launch of the Mi Smart Band 6, despite the India market, one of Xiaomi's strongholds, not being on the initial global launch list. Huawei hung on to third place, mostly relying on the China market to stay afloat.
Deep Sea No 1 gas field now operational
Deep Sea No 1, the first large-scale ultra-deep-water gas field independently explored and developed by China, was put into operation on Monday, said its operator China National Offshore Oil Corp. With a maximum operational water depth exceeding 1,500 meters and proven geological reserves of natural gas exceeding hundreds of billions of cubic meters, the gas field will play an integral part in the nation's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, the company said.
7-day, 2.2% reverse repos net 10b yuan
The People's Bank of China on Friday conducted 10 billion yuan ($1.55 billion) worth of reverse repos to maintain reasonably ample liquidity in the banking system, the central bank disclosed in a statement on its website.
