Ice creams featuring Shanghai landmarks sell like hotcakes

Ice creams resembling famous landmarks have become the latest craze in Shanghai as temperatures surged to above 30 C in the past week.

The latest to go viral is a sea salt and cheese ice cream by Shanghai Hengfu Investment Development Co. Ltd that resembles Wukang Building, a historic building in Shanghai. A hawthorn flavored option will be made available in the future.

Other ice creams featuring famous landmarks like the Shanghai Tower, the world's second tallest skyscraper, buildings in Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai's most recognizable landmark, are also available.

Some theme parks have also been selling ice creams shaped like celebrated cartoon characters. Shanghai Disneyland currently sells ice creams that look like the characters Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Duffy. The first two have been among the most popular since the park opened in 2016, with about 5 million units sold, according to the company.

The Shanghai Smurfs Theme Park has also designed smurf-shaped ice creams.
