Oppo launches Detective Conan edition phone to attract anime lovers

Chinese tech company Oppo unveiled its latest 5G smartphone to target comic lovers, as part of its broader push to target the peak sales season of the July-August summer vacation.
The move came after Oppo was ranked second in the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter of this year in terms of shipments, according to data from the market research company International Data Corp.
The Reno 6 Pro+Detective Conan Custom Edition is named after a Japanese comic series that commands a large fan base in China.
The new Conan limited edition mobile phone is based on Reno6 Pro+, customized on top of the flagship. And it comes with the US chip giant Qualcomm's Snapdragon 870 flagship processor.
It is equipped with a 4500-mAh capacity battery and a 65W charger that supports fast charging.
The move came as Oppo steps up push to cooperate with popular Japanese comic series to attract consumers. The timing also coincides with the peak sales season in the July-August summer vacation when many students may want to upgrade their phones.
Data from IDC show that smartphone shipments in China declined 11 percent year-on-year to nearly 78.1 million units from April to June. With the absence of blockbuster products during the period, the existing smartphone series failed to pique the interest of consumers.
