What they say

Editor's Note: The Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China invited representatives of Party members working as police to share their stories of serving the people on Friday.
In my 22 years as an explosives disposal operator, I have removed and destroyed more than 4,000 bombs and 300,000 detonators. I've made it a rule in my team that as the leader and also the person who has been a Party member the longest, if there's any danger, I should go first. If I am not there, the person with the longest Party membership should go.
Zhang Baoguo, deputy head of the SWAT team at the Jinan public security bureau in Shandong province
I have been working in criminal investigation for 66 years, inspecting all kinds of traces on material evidence. For example, the identification of fingerprints, footprints, traces left by tools and gunshots, and other special marks at crime scenes. I am 87 years old and after I retired, the Ministry of Public Security hired me as a special expert, so that I have more opportunities to participate in the investigation of difficult cases all over the country.
Cui Daozhi, former investigator in the criminal technology division of the Heilongjiang Provincial Public Security Department
Police are faced with all kinds of difficulties, but we cannot flinch. The uniform on our bodies is made of cloth but in the minds of the masses it is made of metal. In the key moment, we are the ones who should stand out. Last year, police nationwide solved 6,270 long-pending cases involving deaths. We must do our job well to respond to the expectations of the people.
Liu Zhongyi, director of the Ministry of Public Security's Criminal Investigation Bureau
My team is mainly responsible for guiding the traffic flow around Chang'an Avenue and Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, as well as guaranteeing smooth traffic for the flag-raising ceremony on the square each morning. We are the nearest traffic police to the red, five-star national flag. Because the traffic flow continues to grow, I have been innovating methods to guide traffic at the intersections when I am on duty to ease congestion rapidly. The drivers in the front row gave me the thumbs-up as the traffic became more orderly.
Meng Kunyu, deputy head of the central area team of the Beijing Municipal Traffic Management Bureau
