Facebook panel upholds Trump ban
Facebook's Oversight Board on Wednesday upheld the social media giant's suspension of Donald Trump's account four months ago following the deadly Jan 6 Capitol riot but offered a glimmer of hope for the former US president and his supporters. The company must review its "arbitrary" decision in ousting Trump indefinitely and decide whether the freeze should be permanent, the panel said. Facebook must complete its review within six months of the board's decision, possibly opening the door to Trump's return. Shortly after the announcement, Trump issued a statement calling it a "total disgrace".

Napoleon tribute handled delicately
French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute on Wednesday to Napoleon Bonaparte 200 years after his death. He called Napoleon "part of us" and said the relatively modest ceremonies organized in Paris to mark the occasion were an "enlightened commemoration", not a celebration of his life. As well as being one of the best-known French figures, Napoleon is also one of the most divisive characters in France's history.
