Party members told to visit grassroots
Members of the Communist Party of China have been told to go to grassroots areas to understand people's needs, especially those related to their livelihoods, to help them solve difficulties and enhance their sense of security and happiness. The requirement was highlighted in a work plan issued by a central team on Party history education on Monday with the aim of deepening the Party's tradition of serving the people. While urging Party members to widely solicit public opinions and help alleviate conflicts at the early stage, a notice issued by the team also ordered Party organizations at each level to list people's livelihood-related problems and solve them in a practical and scientific manner.
Northern China to bear brunt of flood season
Many parts of northern China are expected to experience heavy rain during this year's flood season, with several major river basins forecast to encounter severe flooding, the National Climate Center said. From June to August, heavy rains will batter regions including the eastern part of northwestern China, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and northeastern China, said Jia Xiaolong, deputy head of the center. There may be heavy floods in the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, parts of the Haihe River basin and the Songhua River basin, Jia said.
Less illegal online activity reported
A total of 10.8 million reports of illegal and harmful online content were dealt with across China in March, down 27.1 percent year-on-year, the Cyberspace Administration of China said. Nearly 9.6 million tipoffs were handled by major websites in China last month, down 27.4 percent year-on-year, the administration said, adding that 87.7 percent of the reports were handled by leading commercial websites such as Sina Weibo, Baidu and Tencent. In a bid to build a sound online environment, the administration has launched multiple channels, including a hotline and a mobile app, for people to report illegal and harmful online activities.

4 dead, 2 injured in traffic accident
Four people were killed and two others injured in a traffic accident in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Sunday, local authorities said on Monday. The accident occurred at 12:34 pm when two cars traveling on a provincial expressway collided head-on in Aohan Banner, Chifeng, the local public security bureau said. Further investigation is underway.
