EXPANSION PLAN
International hospitality giant Marriott recently announced that it will increase its property portfolio in China, with more than 60 hotels scheduled to open this year. The move came after 36 openings under Marriott were launched in the country last year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has reported a rapid recovery in the second half of 2020. Some 90 percent of its hotels and resorts are making a profit, according to the company.
CULTURAL RELICS
Shanghai announced the first batch of its revolutionary cultural relics of more than 350 buildings and artifacts on Thursday, as the Communist Party of China celebrates its centenary this year. According to the municipal bureau of culture and tourism, well-known items on the list include the site where the first CPC National Congress took place in 1921 and the Chinese edition of The Communist Manifesto translated by Chen Wangdao in 1920.
BIG WEEK OF CONVENTIONS
A comprehensive travel and tourism expo called "Tourism Plus Shanghai" will take place from March 29 to April 3 in Shanghai. More than 5,000 exhibitors will showcase their products and services at the mega expo, which will comprise four different exhibitions spanning a total of 600,000 square meters across three venues in the city. The Hotelex Shanghai exhibition, featuring the hotel and catering industry, will be hosted at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from March 29 to April 1.
LUXURY LODGINGS
French hospitality group Accor's luxury brand Raffles is working with Galaxy Entertainment Group, one of the world's leading resorts, hospitality and entertainment groups to develop Raffles at Galaxy Macao, a stunning architectural landmark with 450 rooms. The luxury hotel will open in the second half of 2021. The design of each suite is inspired by modern palazzos, with a selection of suites even featuring their own private pools and gardens, and also a small number of unique loft suites featuring double-story windows.
