A Hidden Genius: Finding Vivian Maier, an exhibition now on at the Beijing's Today Art Museum, reveals a corner of the private, mystic life of Vivian Maier whose gift in photography was only discovered after her death.

Maier earned a living as a nanny while in her spare time she wandered the streets of New York City, where she was born, and Chicago, where she lived for decades, to take pictures. She produced more than 100,000 images in 40 years.

The exhibition on until June 30 shows 83 photos from Maier's self-portraits series in which one can get a glimpse of the lonely journey of a solitary, independent woman seeking self identity, as well as the social changes in the 1950s and throughout the 1990s.
