Book details rights in COVID-19 fight
A book on China's efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic while protecting human rights has been published recently in Chinese and English versions. Compiled by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, the book, Human Rights Protection During China's Fight Against COVID-19, is a collection of papers and articles written by Chinese human rights experts during the COVID-19 outbreak early last year. The book, with 28 articles, gives a clear picture of China's measures and efforts to put people's interests first, build a global public health community with a shared future and stand against stigmatization and discrimination in the pandemic fight.

Former vice-mayor of Shanghai arrested
Gong Dao'an, former vice-mayor and police chief of Shanghai, has been arrested for suspected bribe-taking, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Monday. The National Supervisory Commission has completed an investigation into Gong's case and handed it over to prosecutors, it said. Gong has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and national laws.

Nanjing Massacre survivor dies at 95
A Nanjing Massacre survivor died at the age of 95 on Monday, reducing the number of registered survivors to 70, the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders said. Cai Lihua was the second survivor to die this year. The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured the city on Dec 13, 1937. Over six weeks, they killed about 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers in one of the most barbaric episodes of World War II.The Chinese government has preserved the survivors' testimony, recorded in both written documents and video footage. The records of the massacre were listed by UNESCO in the Memory of the World Register in 2015.
