China has granted another 21 tourist attractions a 5A rating, bringing the total number of prime tourist sites nationwide to 302, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The topmost level of China's tourist attraction rating system, a 5A rating indicates exceptional overall tourism quality.
ICE FISHING
A winter fishing-themed tourist festival opened in late December at Chagan Lake, one of China's largest freshwater lakes, to celebrate the centuries-old local tradition of ice fishing. For centuries, residents living by the lake in Songyuan, Northeast China's Jilin province, have kept alive the tradition of ice fishing-hand-drilling holes through thick ice and placing nets beneath to catch fish.
NEW OPENINGS
A new Hilton Garden Inn opened on Dec 30, 2020 as a complex property at Hilton Shenzhen World Exhibition& Convention Center. The 407-room hotel, the largest accommodation inventory of Hilton Garden Inn in China, is within walking distance to the largest convention and exhibition center in the Asia-Pacific region.
DoubleTree by Hilton Shenzhen Airport hosted its first mass recruitment titled "let's fly, Cookie Man" in mid-December, to prepare for its upcoming opening in the second quarter of this year. Covering an area of 31,000 square meters, the hotel will offer 315 guest rooms.
DongFengYun Hotel Mi'Le-MGallery opened its doors in Yunnan province on Dec 28. Surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields, the hotel is set amid a cluster of surreal postmodern red-brick castles built in harmony with the surrounding red soil, lush forests, serene lake and mountains. Its curved walls and dynamic shapes pay tribute to the indigenous craft of pottery, winemaking traditions and flickering campfire flames from the area's ethnic culture.
