CBA Roundup: Shanxi beats Zhejiang, Beijing defeats Shanghai

ZHUJI, China - Zhejiang guard Wu Qian scored 34 points, but it was not enough to stop his team losing to Shanxi 102-112 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Tuesday.
Other action saw the Beijing Ducks overcome Shanghai Sharks 111-97.
While Wu Qian continued his eye-catching performance, Zhejiang failed to stop five Shanxi players scoring double digits in the defeat.
Shanxi guard Zhang Hanjun had a near triple-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, with Eric Moreland adding 21 points and 16 rebounds. Thus, Shanxi ended its trend of two consecutive defeats in the absence of Jamaal Franklin, who earned two unsportsmanlike fouls last game.
"I am glad to see that our players have withstood the pressure under the high intensity of the match," said Shanxi coach Ding Wei. "But we also made 24 turnovers, which we need to improve."
For Zhejiang, their players were less active. Besides Wu, Brandon Paul and Zhu Xuhang contributed 12 and 11, respectively.
The match between Beijing and Shanghai saw a battle between two super guards. Beijing's Jonathan Gibson scored a game-high 39 points adding nine rebounds, while Shanghai's Jimmer Fredette got 32 points and seven rebounds.
Beijing ended the first quarter with a three-point lead. Shanghai tried to catch up in the second quarter, but it could not stop Beijing from enlarging the gap to more than 20 points.
Beijing's Zhai Xiaochuan had 17 points and 10 rebounds with Fang Shuo adding 21 points. Deng Meng and Ju Mingxin had 15 points apiece for Shanghai.
