XINJIANG

Altay-Fuyun railway section opens

The Altay-Fuyun section of the Afuzhun (Altay-Fuyun-Zhundong) railway line in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region began operations Sunday. Both passenger and cargo trains are set to run on the newly unveiled 148-kilometer railway line, according to China Railway Urumqi Group. The Fuyun-Zhundong section became operational in late 2019.

FUJIAN

59 accused of illegal sea sand mining

The China Coast Guard in Fujian province has busted a major case involving the illegal mining of sea sand and arrested 59 suspects. An initial probe revealed that the case involves more than 75 million metric tons of sea sand worth more than 5 billion yuan ($765 million), according to coast guard sources.

SICHUAN

New high-resolution satellite launched

China launched a Long March 3B carrier rocket on Sunday at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province to deploy its latest high-resolution Earth-observation satellite. The rocket blasted off at 11:58 am, marking the 354th flight of the Long March family, and later placed the Gaofen 14 high-resolution optical mapping satellite in space, according to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, the nation's major space contractor that built the rocket and the satellite.

HENAN

10 wetland parks along Yellow River

Authorities in Henan province plan to build 10 wetland parks along the Yellow River next year. The projects will include eight provincial-level and two national-level parks, according to the provincial forestry bureau. Henan will continue building the "ecological corridor" along the Yellow River, aiming to encompass 2,400 hectares in seven cities and one district in 2021.
