CAIRO - Egyptian and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah tested positive for COVID-19, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Friday.

According to an EFA statement, Salah tested positive for the second coronavirus test, noting that the doctors of the country's football federation have taken all measures to treat the Egyptian star.

The result of the 28-year-old winger's first test was positive, but the EFA decided to conduct a second test to confirm the infection, according to the statement.

Egyptian doctors are in contact with Liverpool's doctors to brief them with the developments of Salah's case, the statement added.

Salah underwent a routine test ahead of the Egyptian team's first-leg clash with Togo on Saturday in the 2021 African Nations Championship qualifiers.

Except for Salah, the results of the whole squad and the technical and administrative staff were negative.

Salah won the best African footballer for two times.
