Death toll from bridge collapse rises to 8
The death toll from a railway bridge collapse in Tianjin climbed to eight on Monday, local authorities said. The collapse occurred in Tianjin's Binhai New Area at around 9 am Sunday when the bridge, which was over 30 meters long, was under repair. The railway serves an industrial area for logistics near a port in Tianjin. The rescue operation ended at around 6 pm Sunday. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Gas poisoning kills 4 in Mianyang dorm
Four people were killed and three others injured by gas poisoning in Mianyang, Sichuan province, on Saturday, local authorities said on Sunday. The accident occurred at around 7:50 am Saturday when seven employees of a company were left unconscious by carbon monoxide poisoning in their dormitory, the publicity department of Mianyang's Anzhou district said. Four employees died despite emergency medical treatment provided by first responders. Another three were rushed to a hospital and are in stable condition. A preliminary investigation found the gas poisoning was caused by poor ventilation in the bathroom.
HAINAN
Province on alert for Typhoon Goni
Hainan province issued a level four alert on Monday morning for Typhoon Goni, which is expected to bring torrential downpours and strong winds to parts of the island after battering the Philippines on Sunday. Goni, the 19th typhoon of the year, was some 550 kilometers southeast of Yongxing Island in the South China Sea at 6 pm on Monday, with winds of 72 km per hour near the center, the national meteorological center said. The typhoon is forecast to move westward toward central Vietnam at about of 15 km/h and maintain its strength, it said. Heavy winds and rainfall are forecast for islands in the South China Sea, with fishing boats told to return to port.
