Southwest city Beihai eyes on digital economy to drive growth

In addition to the manufacturing sector, Beihai also vows to develop a high-end service industry based on big data, fintech and artificial intelligence.
With 3 billion yuan in investment, JD, China's Internet and e-commerce giant, has launched a cloud computing center and big data basement in Beihai, aiming to offer all-around support for the city's information construction and management.
In cooperation with the Beihai government, JD has built an Artificial Intelligence Operating Center that scientifically monitors statistics from multiple sectors in economy, which empowers officials' policymaking and elevates governance capacity.
As of Sept 30, over 400 enterprises had settled in the CEC Beibu Gulf Information Port, and generated total revenue of 18.14 billion yuan in the high-end service industry, up 75 percent year-on-year.
