Film commemorating CPC's centennial to debut next summer

A film commemorating the centenary anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China is slated to hit movie theatres nationwide on July 1 next year.

The movie's joint directors, Huang Jianxin and Zheng Dasheng, announced its release information during an annual press conference co-organized by Tencent Pictures, New Classics Media and China Literature on Monday.

The film is produced by Tencent Pictures in association with Shanghai Film Group, Dimension Films, China Literature and Maoyan Entertainment.

Prominent cast members, including Huang Xuan and Yuan Wenkang, were officially announced.

Set in 1921, the film looks back on the early history of the CPC in that turbulent era, telling the story of the revolutionary leaders' devotion and sacrifice for the rise of Chinese people.

"It has the necessary attributes of a movie, as well as narrative style, images, touching language and deep emotions," said Huang, the director and veteran moviemaker. "All these will make it into a great film. We hope we can produce a movie better than we described."

"While the pandemic has savaged the film industry for a certain period of time, the sector's quick bounce back in China is a vote of confidence that people's pursuit for better stories is essential to their mental well-being," said Edward Cheng, vice-president of Tencent.
