Other major changes in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Law

・People will be held criminally liable if they steal or fraudulently use other people's identities to enroll in college, get qualifications for being civil servants or obtain employment benefits. Those organizing such activities or asking others to do so will receive harsher punishment.

・People attacking police on duty will be convicted of intervening in public affairs and receive a criminal punishment such as a sentence of up to three years in prison or detention. Those using guns, knives or cars to seriously endanger others will face a sentence ranging from three to seven years in prison.

・People who insult or slander heroes or martyrs, or harm their reputation by other means, bringing damage to society under serious circumstances, will face criminal liability, including a sentence of up to three years or detention.

・Given that cross-border gambling has been serious in recent years, those opening gambling venues overseas and organizing people from the Chinese mainland to go abroad to gamble will be harshly punished.

・People who lure, instigate or use deception to persuade athletes to use illegal substances to participate in sports competitions at home or abroad under serious circumstances, will be held criminally liable and receive criminal punishments such as a sentence of up to three years in prison or detention, as well as fines.
