China's furniture output declines in January-August

BEIJING - China saw lower production of furniture in the first eight months this year amid the COVID-19 epidemic, official data showed.

During the period from January to August, 544.1 million pieces of furniture were produced, down 7.7 percent year-on-year, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In August, the output of furniture increased by 10.8 percent to 81.39 million pieces.

The total revenue of Chinese furniture makers in the January-August period was 396.28 billion yuan ($58.45 billion), down 11.1 percent year-on-year, while their profit stood at 19.5 billion yuan, down 27.3 percent from the same period of last year.
