Winter Games transport projects nearly done
Construction of all 10 transport facilities to support the 2022 Winter Olympics in the Chongli district of Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, will be completed by the end of this month, a major milestone in the overall preparations for the Games. Nine of the 10 facilities are done now, including a railway connecting Chongli with Beijing, an expansion of the Zhangjiakou Ningyuan Airport and several highways linking major sites in the district. The remaining facility is expected to be completed by the end of this month, Hebei Daily reported.
HAINAN
6 arrested in drug smuggling bust
The China Coast Guard recently ambushed and captured a drug smuggling vessel in waters northwest of Yongshu reef, part of the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea. Launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security, the operation involved the seizure of a large quantity of drugs and the arrest of six suspects. The suspects have confessed, authorities said.
JIANGSU
Police shut down gun traffickers
The police in Nantong, Jiangsu province, seized 167 guns of several types, along with a military mortar shell, during a 15-month crackdown on the illegal manufacture and sales of firearms. Six small arms factories were destroyed and 173 suspects were detained, the Nantong public security bureau said at a news conference on Tuesday. More than 10,000 bullets and 4,000 gun accessories were also seized, police said.
