Three Gorges ship locks resuming operations
The Three Gorges ship locks resumed operations on Tuesday after navigation had been suspended for a record 174 hours due to floods. After the suspension was lifted, the first ship entered the lock chamber at around 3 pm on Tuesday as the outflow of the Three Gorges Reservoir was reduced to 44,500 cubic meters per second at 2 pm, reaching the navigable standard. At 8 am on Aug 18, the flow of the Three Gorges Reservoir reached 57,000 cubic m/s, causing the ship locks and lifts to be suspended for the fifth time since the flood season began this year.

Ecology ministry to send inspection teams
The Ministry of Ecology and Environment said on Thursday it will send seven new groups to inspect Chinese central government bodies and State-owned enterprises for a month. The move, led by minister-level officials, aims to cover a wider range of departments amid the second round of inspection, which was launched last year and will end in 2022. The ministry said that the new batch of inspection teams will target Beijing, Tianjin, Zhejiang province, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the National Energy Administration and certain departments of the State Council. State-owned companies, including the Aluminum Corporation of China and the China National Building Material Group, are also among the targets.
