With the COVID-19 epidemic coming under control, Shanghai's hotel occupancy rates have steadily risen over the past few months, according to the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.

Statistics from the administration show that the average occupancy rate of hotels in the city reached 65.8 percent in the week spanning Aug 9 to 15, a month after travel agencies and online tourism companies were allowed to resume trans-provincial group tours.

In contrast, occupancy rates were at 6 percent in February.

The recovery of five-star hotels has generally been better, with the occupancy rates being over 67 percent.
