Mainland comments on Lee Teng-hui's death
A Chinese mainland spokeswoman on Friday stressed that "Taiwan independence" is a dead-end road, when commenting on the news that former Taiwan leader Lee Teng-hui died of illness on Thursday. The historical trend of national reunification and rejuvenation cannot be stopped by anyone or any force, said Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
Party chief appointed for Shaanxi province
Liu Guozhong has been appointed secretary of the Communist Party of China Shaanxi Provincial Committee, replacing Hu Heping, according to a decision from the CPC Central Committee. Hu has been appointed minister of culture and tourism, according to the ministry website.

Online games to require real names
China plans to launch a real-name authentication system for online games before September to prevent gaming addiction among teenagers. Feng Shixin, an official with the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told a forum of the ChinaJoy Expo on Thursday in Shanghai that gaming companies will be asked to join the system after its launch. China has the world's largest online game market, which hit 231 billion yuan ($32.6 billion) in 2018.
