National legislators set to meet Aug 8-11
The Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, will convene its 21st session from Aug 8 to 11 in Beijing, according to a decision made on Wednesday. Legislators will have a busy agenda during the session, such as reviewing the draft deed tax law, the draft amendments to the laws on the national flag and national emblem, a report by the State Council on the implementation of this year's national economic and social development plan, and a report by the National Supervisory Commission on China's hunt for corrupt officials and their assets from overseas.
Beijing builds 5,135 5G base stations
Beijing built 5,135 5G base stations in the first half of this year and will complete the construction of 13,000 such stations this year, according to a report on the city's economic and social development in 2020. By June, the total number of 5G base stations in Beijing had reached 22,500, said Tan Xuxiang, head of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. He added that by year-end, the 5G network will cover all outdoor areas within Beijing's Fifth Ring Road and in the city's subcenter in Tongzhou district.
Vice-minister of culture and tourism probed
Li Jinzao, vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is under probe by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervision Commission for serious violation of discipline, according to the website of the CCDI. Li, 62, is from Xiantao, Hubei province. He spent a large part of his career in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. He was appointed the head of the former national tourism administration in 2014. Then he became the vice-minister of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which was formed through the merger of the former national tourism administration and former ministry of culture.

7 killed, 1 injured in road accident
Seven people were killed and one was injured in a road accident on Tuesday in Shaanxi province, local authorities said on Wednesday. The accident occurred at around 11 pm Tuesday in Ganxi township of Xunyang county when an agricultural vehicle carrying eight people drove off a cliff. Two were found dead at the scene and four died on the way to hospital. At 8:15 am Wednesday, another seriously injured patient died. Further investigation is under way.
