Although a sustained heat wave has affected Fuzhou, Fujian province, for months, animals living at the local zoo are not feeling it much thanks to special cooling techniques and equipment.

Chimpanzees are drinking freshly made herbal tea, and their dormitories are equipped with environmentally friendly air conditioning.

Hippos and black bears simply dive into their customized swimming pools to cool off.

Water misting systems and sunshades were built so the animals can engage in outdoor activities.

Watermelon has also been added to the menu for the animals.
