Global COVID-19 cases near 110,000: WHO

GENEVA - A total of 109,578 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported worldwide as of 10:00 CET Monday, an increase of 3,994 infections from the previous day, according to the daily report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) Monday evening.

Of the 3,994 new infections, 3,949 are outside China.

Among 28,674 confirmed cases outside China, 686 people have died of COVID-19, which marked an increase of 202 deaths compared to the previous day.

Bangladesh, Albania and Paraguay have reported cases of COVID-19 for the first time in the past 24 hours as of Monday morning, bringing the total number of countries and regions affected by the coronavirus to 104.

Five more countries -- Bangladesh, Bahrain, Iraq, Chile, Costa Rica -- have seen local transmission of COVID-19, bringing the number of countries and regions where local transmission emerged to 58.
