Flamengo win maiden Brazilian Supercup
BRASILIA - Flamengo secured their first Brazilian Supercup on Sunday by defeating Athletico Paranaense 3-0 at the Mane Garrincha stadium in Brasilia.
Brazil international forwards Bruno Henrique and Gabriel Barbosa scored first-half goals before Uruguayan playmaker Giorgian De Arrascaeta completed the rout with a 68th-minute strike in the revived competition.
Flamengo booked their place in the Supercup decider by winning last year's Brazilian Serie A title while Athletico qualified as the Copa do Brasil champions.
It was the first time the trophy has been contested since 1991 when Corinthians beat Flamengo 1-0.
Flamengo could add another trophy to their growing collection of silverware when they meet Boavista in the final of the Guanabara Cup on Saturday.
