630,000 applying to be Beijing 2022 volunteers in first month


BEIJING - Over 630,000 applications have been received, from China and abroad, to be volunteers at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in the first month since the global recruitment program opened on December 5, 2019.
Students are the mainstay among the applicants with 520,000 applications, accounting for over 80 percent of the total. The rest of the 110,000 aspiring volunteers are made up of Chinese nationals living abroad, international participants and others from all walks of life in China.
Five requirements need to be met in order to qualify as a volunteer for Beijing 2022 - have a clean record according to Chinese law, be at least 18 years old by January, 2022, learn the basic skills and knowledge of volunteers, the ability to communicate in Chinese or English and be available for continuous service during the tournament.
