Several manufacturers of Spring Festival ornaments in Yiwu, Zhejiang province have acquired partial IP rights of Walt Disney classic Mickey Mouse and are making a fortune with them, local media reported on Dec 16.

The specially-designed ornaments, which feature Mickey Mouse characters, are receiving orders from across the country, as the Chinese lunar year of the mouse will arrive in less than two months.

"We have expanded our inventory in preparation, but the demand is just too huge," said Wang Yan, an ornaments dealer who was authorized by Walt Disney to use Mickey Mouse characters from September 1, 2019 to March 1, 2020.

Characters from the classic IP have been brought to life on over 90 products, including calendars, paper-cuts, and paintings, and have boosted profits by about 30 percent.

Wang "complained" that she has to answer dozens of phone calls from people hoping to order her Mickey Mouse merchandise, saying her company is now closed to new orders.
