After a heavy snowfall in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, a unique snowball fight was held in Harbin Institute of Technology on Sunday.

Players hit each other with standard-sized snowballs while avoiding attacks behind snow bases.

A player is eliminated when struck by a teammate's or one's own snowball.

During the 3-minute competition between two teams with seven players, the team with the most remaining players at the end or the team that first captures the opponent's flag wins.

The snowball fight, also named Yukigassen, attracted 11 teams with more than 120 students and teachers at the university.

Snowball fighting is a popular winter sport and activity in the northeast region and the competition has become an attempt to modernize this winter fun.
