Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong finish golden season with BWF World Tour Finals championship
GUANGZHOU - China's Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong secured their golden season by winning at the BWF World Tour Finals 2019 here on Sunday.
Zheng and Huang had a surprisingly easy result over compatriots Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping 21-14, 21-14 in just 35 minutes, winning the BWF World Tour Finals 2019 to add to their victories from the World Championships and all three Super 1000 titles in this year.
Zheng and Huang also avenged last year's Finals loss to Wang and Huang.
"It feels great that we are winning this tournament for the first time together. We lost our last three finals, so it's good that we found our winning ways again," said Huang.
This is Zheng and Huang's seventh title of the year and their first since the China Open in Changzhou. Their victory Sunday came after they fell in their last three finals - at the Korea Open, French Open, and Fuzhou China Open.
Wang and Huang had a better start by leading 4-0 but fell apart when losing eight points in a row after 8-6. Zheng and Huang appeared to have things under control with a 21-14 victory in the first game.
In the second game, Zheng and Huang continued their momentum on the offensive, controlling the pace and direction of almost every rally and eventually claiming the title with another 21-14.
"To win the match is very satisfying because I never thought I could play so well today," said Huang. Her partner Zheng also admitted they didn't imagine such an easy victory. "We have prepared for the difficulties. We don't pay much attention to the result and tried to release ourselves on the court."
Wang and Huang admitted there was very little they could do.
"We were faced with many challenges but we couldn't find any solution, that's why we were trailing. We lacked the confidence to challenge them because we over-analyzed the problem," said Huang.
