England players to wear legacy numbers on shirts in 1,000th international game

England players are going to wear legacy numbers on their shirts next Thursday while facing Montenegro in the Euro 2020 qualifiers as the team will play their 1,000th international game in history.
England manager Gareth Southgate named a 27-man squad on Thursday for the last two qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo this month. The players will wear individual legacy numbers on their shirts with a special dispensation from UEFA.
For example, the recent debutant Tyrone Mings is granted number 1244 and captain Harry Kane's legacy number is 1207.
Other former internationals also have their legacy numbers as Robert Barker, England's goalkeeper in the first ever international match in 1872, at number one. Southgate is at number 1071.
England lead Group A with 15 points and need one more point to secure their place at Euro 2020.
