China's e-commerce trade volume reaches 31.63t yuan in 2018

GUIYANG - China's e-commerce trade volume reached 31.63 trillion yuan ($4.58 trillion) in 2018, according to a report released at the ongoing China International Big Data Industry Expo 2019 in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Tuesday.

According to the report on China's e-commerce development in 2018, over 9 trillion yuan of online retail sales was made and online payment exceeded 200 trillion yuan last year.

More than 50 billion packages were delivered last year. The total import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce reached 134.7 billion yuan over the same period.

By the end of last year, the number of people working in e-commerce reached 47 million, the report said.

The development of e-commerce has influenced both production and consumption, and is promoting the development of agriculture, industry and the service sector, said Sun Baowen, dean of China Center for Internet Economy Research at Central University of Finance and Economics.
