Jan 18, 1955

The Navy sends ships to take part in the Battle of the Yijiangshan Islands, along with ground troops and PLA Air Force planes, conducting the PLA's first tri-service joint operation.

Aug 4, 1957

The Navy holds its first sea parade off Jiaozhou Bay, Shandong. Premier Zhou Enlai inspects the parade, which involves Navy ships and aircraft based in Qingdao.

Aug 23, 1958

Naval coastal artillery units in Xiamen, Fujian province, join PLA Ground Force artillery in the bombardment of Jinmen, a small island with a large number of Kuomintang troops.

Aug 6, 1965

A flotilla consisting of patrol boats and torpedo boats from the South Sea Fleet engages and sinks two Kuomintang navy submarine chasers off Nan'ao Island, Guangdong province.

September 1966

The Navy commissions its first domestically designed large warship – a Type 65 corvette – for the East Sea Fleet in Shanghai.
