Amazon's cloud service platform, Amazon Web Services, announced China Express Airlines, China's first privately owned airline specializing in regional air passenger and cargo transportation, has selected AWS China (Ningxia) Region, operated by Ningxia Western Cloud Data Technology Co Ltd, to provide its cloud infrastructure.

China Express migrated its transit 2.0 ticketing system, marketing, internal portal, business process management, and human resources systems to AWS in 2018.

The Chinese aviation industry pioneer will move its remaining infrastructure to AWS by 2020, including its core business, maintenance, flight, security systems, and surrounding business management to the cloud, after seeing improvements in system availability and reliability, as well as cost reduction provided by AWS.

The transit 2.0 ticketing system differentiates China Express from its competitors by integrating a multi-segment itinerary, providing convenient transit ground services, and giving customers more convenient access to purchase discounted fares through its online travel agency.

By migrating to AWS, OTA daily page views increased by 43.8 percent, with 22.3 percent more data throughput and substantially improved service stability, supporting a jump in sales during its peak Spring Festival holiday season with 100 percent uptime.

Founded in 2006, China Express has established five operating bases across the country, making up China's less developed regional aviation network in its national transportation system. With a fleet of 45 aircraft reaching over 100 destinations across China, the company is collaborating with mainstream domestic airlines, governments, and airports to improve air accessibility and to benefit and revitalize urban residents and economic development.

"AWS's technology leadership, reliability, innovative thinking and customer obsession convinced us to migrate almost everything to the cloud to drive our digital transformation," said Jiang Hanru, the chief information officer of China Express.

"The success of the system migration in 2018 gives us the confidence to move our core operation and maintenance system, the engine behind our business, to the cloud."

"Cloud computing provides airlines with a highly scalable and flexible infrastructure that helps drive innovation," added Alex Yung, corporate vice-president and managing director of AWS China.

"With AWS, China Express has fully unleashed the power of cloud computing to replace traditional IT, upgrade its systems, and explore business growth opportunities. We look forward to working with China Express, a company with an innovative DNA, to transform the aviation industry with its move to go all-in on AWS," Yung said.
