Apple CEO Tim Cook on Saturday thanked China for opening its domestic market to the United States tech giant.

He also highlighted the importance of openness in forming partnerships to address challenges such as climate change.

"One of the key elements of partnership is openness – being open to working together, open to new ideas, open to new solutions," Cook said.

"We have seen China continue to change and evolve and we are grateful that you have opened your doors and allowed us to be a part of the community here."

Cook made the remarks in Beijing at the ongoing China Development Forum.

This is Cook's latest trip China, highlighting the importance of the world's largest smartphone market to Apple.

He called for increased joint efforts from government, educational institutions, and businesses to address challenges such as poverty and inequality, and praised China's leadership on climate change.

He quoted a Chinese saying that the fire burns higher when everyone brings wood to it, and called for more actions to match these words.

According to Cook, Apple's tools for developing mobile applications have been used by over 2 million entrepreneurs across China, enabling them to offer their mobile applications as part of a multi-billion-dollar marketplace.

Apple is dedicated to running its company on entirely renewable energy and helping its suppliers do the same, as part of its broader push to use technology to change the world for the better, Cook said.
