China beats Switzerland, Canada in Qinghai International Curling Elite
XINING, China - The Chinese men's team edged Switzerland 5-4 and the Chinese women's team B upset Canada 5-4 in the Qinghai International Curling Elite tournament here on Monday.
After Round 7, China ranks 8th in the men's standings, and its women's team A and team B place 5th and 6th respectively.
In the men's actions, though China lost to Russia 7-3 before, they made a good performance during the game with Switzerland in the afternoon. The two sides fought tight to tie for 4 through the first 7 ends, and in the last end, China's Yuan Mingjie gave a nice shot with the last stone and clinched the winning point.
In the women's round 7 in the evening, China's team B had a tough match with Canada. Because of Yan Hui's injury, there were only three players on China's side.
"Canada is really a top team, but we are not nervous. We just fought tight and tried our best to catch every point, and I'm so excited that we finally made it," said Zhang Di from China's team B.
